On February 28, 2026, 45 dedicated volunteer teachers of PAGbASA: May Pag-asa sa Pagbasa gathered for an enriching one-hour storytelling workshop. The session was facilitated by Himamaylan Area Coordinator Wilfred R. Miranda as part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to equip volunteers with effective and engaging teaching strategies.
The workshop emphasized storytelling as a powerful educational tool that goes beyond simply reading words on a page. It highlighted essential elements of impactful storytelling, including voice modulation, expressive facial gestures, purposeful body movements, meaningful audience engagement, and the ability to connect emotions to the narrative. Through practical insights and guided discussions, participants discovered how these techniques can transform ordinary reading sessions into immersive and memorable learning experiences.
Volunteers were reminded that storytelling plays a vital role in nurturing children’s imagination, strengthening comprehension skills, and building self-confidence. More importantly, it fosters a deeper love for reading—one of the core goals of PAGbASA’s literacy advocacy.
The session also encouraged each volunteer to embrace their unique storytelling style, recognizing that authenticity and passion are what truly captivate young learners. By bringing stories to life, teachers create safe and inspiring spaces where children feel encouraged to listen, imagine, and express themselves.
More than a skills-building activity, the workshop served as a reaffirmation of the volunteers’ shared mission: to give hope through literacy. As PAGbASA continues to expand its reach, initiatives like this ensure that every reading session becomes an opportunity not only to teach—but to inspire.
