Members of the Project Tikang continued its mission of supporting geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) as it brought fresh assistance and attended the inauguration of a new community facility in Sitio Madaja, Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, on September 6, 2025.

A total of 156 bottles of vitamins from Brigada News FM Kabankalan and 13 sacks of clothing from various donors were distributed to community members during the visit.
The activity also highlighted the blessing of the Madaja Hand Weavers Association (MAHAWA) Multipurpose Building, a new venue for showcasing locally produced tikog products and for conducting trainings on livelihood opportunities.
The event was graced by the Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI), the 94th Infantry Battalion (IB), Brigada News FM, youth volunteers, and other partners. HBONI also led storytelling sessions and interactive games for children, fostering joy and learning in the community.

The Association of Negros Producers Inc. (ANP) expressed gratitude to the residents for their unwavering dedication and continued growth.
“The progress we’ve witnessed in Sitio Madaha since 2022 is remarkable,” said Sybel Nobleza, Community Development Consultant. “From an elementary school and a basketball court to this new multi-purpose hall, these milestones reflect the resilience of the people. The team will continue to walk with them in building a stronger future.”

For the 94th Infantry Battalion, the initiative reflects their broader mission beyond security. Lt. Col. Ziegfred D. Tayaban, 94IB commander, affirmed their commitment.
“The 94IB stands with our partners and the people of Sitio Madaja in their journey toward peace and progress. Beyond security, our mission is to help communities reach their full potential through education, livelihood, and sustainable programs. Together with the Tikang team, we will keep building hope and a better future.”

Now on its third year since its first intervention in 2022, Project Tikang continues to deliver concrete gains to a sitio once marked by conflict, strengthening hope through education, livelihood, and environmental support.
“Tikang,” a Hiligaynon word meaning step, symbolizes the initiative’s vision—one step at a time—toward a more peaceful and progressive future for Negros communities.*
