The Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI) – Candoni Council was among the groups invited to take part in the Civil Society Organization (CSO) Conference hosted by the Municipality of Candoni on August 11, 2025.

The event, spearheaded by Mayor Ray R. Ruiz and Vice Mayor Edgy Z. Javellana, gathered CSOs to collaborate with the Sangguniang Bayan members and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in preparation for the upcoming CSO reviewal.

The CSO renewal is a vital process mandated by the Local Government Code of 1991, which promotes citizen participation in local governance.

Through accreditation, CSOs gain official recognition and representation in local special bodies, such as the Local Development Council, enabling them to play a significant role in planning and monitoring development programs and projects for the community.

The review ensures that organizations partnering with the municipality are legitimate, credible, and capable of contributing to governance. Requirements typically include the submission of a letter of application, board resolution, and a certificate of registration from a recognized national government agency.

For HBONI, participation in the conference marks an important step toward strengthening its partnership with the Candoni LGU. Accreditation would not only formalize its role but also allow the organization to actively participate in shaping policies and initiatives that directly benefit the people of Candoni.

The conference reaffirms the municipality’s commitment to participatory governance by recognizing the value of CSOs as vital partners in progress.*
