The Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI) accomplished a vibrant PagkaOwn event at Don Benito Lopez Elementary School, Municipality of Isabela on July 25, 2025, in celebration of Nutrition Month. The initiative which aimed to promote nutrition awareness within the school community, was made possible through a collaboration with Head Teacher Waren Geronca.

The program commenced early in the morning with an Agro Fair, showcasing an impressive display of vegetables, fruits, and native delicacies prepared by parents. This was followed by a lively parade, energizing Zumba session, and various speeches from local officials and community leaders.

Among the speakers were Hon. Nico Adrian Vasquez, the Municipal Councilor and Chairman on Health Committee; Hon. Milagros Caimoso, Barangay Tinongan Kagawad; and Hon. Franz Uy, Barangay Tinongan SK Chairman. They all delivered messages of support,highlighting the importance of nutrition in community health. The event also featured intermission performances and a fun-filled PagkaOwn initiative organized by HBONI.

As part of the day’s activities, a comprehensive nutrition program was conducted, which included handwashing, feeding, deworming, and toothbrush distribution to 146 learners. Students also participated in contests such as a poster contest, slogan contest, and quiz bee, with winners awarded at the end of the event.

In an interview, Mr.Geronca emphasized the core message of the program: “Promoting nutrition awareness is essential for our students and community. Healthy eating habits and community engagement are crucial for our collective well-being.”

The event was made successful in collaboration with various partners, including 99.7 Brigada Kabankalan, local government officials, and community members.

As Nutrition Month concludes, HBONI remains committed to fostering a healthier and more informed community, emphasizing that nutrition is a shared responsibility among all.
